B.D.S.M. - 10 out of 10
Devious Adelaide
TICKETS: End of Season

A fringe festival is all about pushing boundaries that are usually observed in more traditional art spaces, and Devious Adelaide’s B.D.S.M. is no exception. It explores and showcases the kink culture of Adelaide and is unashamedly proud of its sensuality, sexuality, and radical consent.

That focus on radical consent isn't just a disclaimer; it’s the backbone of the performance. Every lash of the whip or moment of restraint is grounded in a deep, pre-negotiated trust that remains fluid throughout the set.

The one-hour runtime is remarkably tight. The creative team has eliminated the awkward lulls often found in variety-style shows, ensuring the transitions are as choreographed and captivating as the acts themselves.

For this reviewer, the stage wasn’t the only place to find a show. Watching the juxtaposition between the confident performers and the shell-shocked faces in the front row – including one couple who buried their faces in each other's shoulders – was a highlight in itself. Another young woman’s jaw dropped in disbelief as she watched the final act embrace the sheer intensity of the finale.

B.D.S.M. is a fun night out for the adventurous and open-minded. If the kinkiest you get is leaving the lights on, this is not the show for you.
