Phoebs, You're A Lesbian - 10 out of 10
Phoebe Rodger
TICKETS: Phoebs, You’re a Lesbian. | Adelaide Fringe

After Courtney Monsma quite literally made Phoebe Rodger’s heart skip a beat, Phoebe soon realised things weren’t exactly as they seemed!

Phoebs, You’re A Lesbian is an infectious musical comedy cabaret that charts Phoebe’s hilarious and heartfelt journey to self-discovery, backed by an irresistibly catchy original score. With witty, punchy lyrics and a comedic flair that evokes the cleverness of Tim Minchin himself (just putting it out there), this show bursts with charm and confidence.

Despite earning a jaw-dropping ATAR of 99.95 (YIKES), Phoebe chooses to follow her passion for performance, diving into a musical theatre degree and creating her own Fringe cabaret debut under the mentorship of local legend Mim Sarre. And honestly—why not? Chasing your dreams is something we should all aspire to... especially after being blown a kiss by Courtney Monsma during Wicked’s Sydney season. For the full story, you’ll just have to see the show!

Throughout the cabaret, Phoebe revisits her first kiss at 19—choreographed with an intimacy coordinator—with someone who, coincidentally, also happens to have a Fringe cabaret premiering this week. From there, she ventures into tales of a summer interstate fling with a man described as “somewhere between Jojo Siwa and Ellen DeGeneres,” who, in a wild twist, was later arrested for running a drug ring (fact or fiction, who’s to say?). Naturally, no musical theatre graduate could resist showing off a tap routine—and Phoebe delivers hers with panache.

The show closes on a poignant note, reflecting on the countless queer women throughout history who were forced to hide their identities out of fear—reminding us that, even today, 12 countries still punish homosexuality by death. In a moving imagined exchange with Amelia Earhart, Phoebe notes that it’s been only a decade since Australia legalised same-sex marriage, and yet homophobia remains deeply rooted in many communities. The show culminates in a powerful original number confronting global injustices—one that could easily anchor a whole show of its own.

Phoebs, You’re A Lesbian marks an outstanding Fringe debut from Phoebe Rodger. With sharp humour, meaningful commentary, and undeniable musical talent, this rising star is already selling out shows. So if you haven’t secured your ticket yet—and you’re not a homophobe—what are you waiting for?
